Manage Stress

Stress can do major damage on your body, your health and your mind. Stress can be caused by many factors including work, finances and relationships. Did you know that there are 50 common signs and symptoms of stress including headaches, pain, illness, depression, insomnia, uncontrollable emotions, fatigue and changes in your behavior? Stress can affect your brain, heart, muscles, lungs, digestive tract, skin, reproductive organs, hair and mouth. Studies even show that there are a number of physical and emotional disorders and illnesses that can be linked to stress. Find ways to eliminate or manage stress in your life. Common ways may include exercise, meditation, prayer, muscular relaxation exercises, deep breathing, massage therapies, visual imagery, alternative therapies (acupuncture, acupressure, aromatherapy, etc.), music, hobbies, volunteer work, laughter and hanging out with friends/family. Nutritional supplements can also very helpful in managing stress.

Think Positive

Nobody likes a party pooper. If you’re not naturally a happy (glass half full) type of person, try to think more positive thoughts. How you frame things in your mind can affect your actions, behaviors and interpretation of the world around you. Fill your heart and mind with positive thoughts. Other activities that can help include investing in personal development/self-help programs, practice positive self talk, make daily affirmations and show gratitude. The people you hang around with can affect your thoughts, actions and outlook on life. Beware of “negativities” or the disease of negative thinking as it can be contagious. Surround yourself with happy positive people that support you and make you feel good about yourself. If you’re working to improve your health and lifestyle, then negative people will only hinder your success.

End Destructive Behaviors

If it’s bad for you, chances are it’s affecting your health and your lifestyle. Behaviors like smoking, alcohol and drug abuse will affect your health and quality of life. Find ways to end these behaviors and replace them with healthier options. Seek medical or professional help if needed to end these behaviors.

Manage Your Weight

Overweight and obesity has been tied to several diseases including coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, high blood pressure, stroke, liver and gallbladder disease, sleep apnea and respiratory problems, osteoarthritis and gynecological problems (abnormal menses, infertility). For adults, overweight and obesity ranges are determined by using your weight and height to calculate your body mass index (BMI). BMI is used because, for most people, it correlates with their amount of body fat. An adult who has a BMI between 25 and 29.9 is considered overweight. An adult who has a BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese. Find out how to calculate your BMI. Be sure to watch what you eat, how you eat and how much you eat. Products like RealW8 can help with managing your weight. Always consult with your physician before using any weight-loss products or making any dietary changes.

Stay Active

It doesn’t matter how much you weigh, your body will benefit from staying active. Exercise helps with ease of movement, builds strong muscles, improves your posture, makes your joints more stable, helps decrease chronic pain and leads to better sleep patterns and emotional well-being. Adults should do 30 minutes or more of physical activity per day, according to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition. Physical activity can include any kind of movement. You can even make little changes in your daily routine to get some exercise including taking the stairs instead of elevators and parking further away and walking to your destination. Always consult with your doctor before beginning any fitness program.

Manage Your Finances

One of the top factors for stress is finances. Having poor finances can affect your physical and emotional health as well as your relationships. Today’s economic environment has caused financial stress for more people with high unemployment rates, wage cuts, low economic confidence in our country and the rising costs of healthcare and goods. Financial stress is one of the reasons why Asantae provides a business opportunity to help people generate extra income and at a time when it’s needed most. Other things you can do to help manage your finances include have a positive attitude about money, separate your needs from your wants, ask for professional help if needed, plan for the future, work on eliminating debt and create a budget to stick to.

Create a Baseline

If you’re trying to make positive changes in your life, then create a baseline so that you have ways to measure your success. For example, if you want to get in better shape than record your weight, measure your body fat, write down your sizes and note how you look and feel in your clothes. If you want to improve your health and well-being then make notes of how you feel, your sleep patterns, energy levels and activity patterns. Write these down so that you can track your success and have something to refer back to.

Set Goals

We can all dream of things like losing weight, getting in better shape or making more money, but if you don’t set a timeframe to it than you’re less likely to succeed. It’s important to set goals, write them down and post them someplace where you can see them often. Be sure to set realistic goals that fit with your lifestyle and are achievable. If they’re too easy or too hard than you’re less likely to stick to them. Also, be sure to set goals for different timeframes such as a 60-day goal, six month goal and 1-year goal.

Track Your Success

If you set goals and created a baseline of which to measure your results, than it’s important to track your success. When you experience success, you’re more apt to continue your behaviors and actions if you can see and feel the rewards. Write down your results by creating a tracking sheet, write it on your calendar or start a notebook. Be sure to include numbers as well as other factors including how you feel, etc.

Be Accountable For Your Actions

If you’re tracking your success than you’ll find some weeks you are doing good and some weeks maybe not as good. To error is human. If you mess up, then find out what caused it and get back on track. Don’t use it as an excuse to halt your efforts overall or backtrack. If you have great results, take time to reward yourself. A great way to help make yourself accountable is to involve other people in your mission. Tell other people your goals so they can watch your progress or invite them to join you whether it’s improving your health or building a business.
